WWDC 2010 中英文即時轉播網站整理

台北時間2010年6月8日凌晨一點（美西時間6月7日早上十點），Apple 每年一度的 WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference，連結為 Apple 所設的網頁) 將在舊金山的 Moscone Center 舉行，Apple 也宣布了這次大會的 Keynote 由 CEO Steve Jobs 親自主持（去年 Steve Jobs 因健康問題請假，由全球行銷資深副總裁 Phillip W. Schiller 代為主持）。而屆時身處其他時區的朋友，可以在這個網頁查看您的所在地所對照的時間。

另外如 Engadget 中文版、MacUknow 等中文網站應該也會像往常一樣，在會後為大家整理出一系列的報導。

通常 Apple 會在隔天公布 WWDC Keynote 影片，除了可以到 Apple 網站，透過串流影音收看，也可以到 iTunes Store 底下的 Podcasts>Video Podcasts>Tech News>Apple Keynotes 去免費下載 WWDC Keynote 影片。

如果您真的等不及看 Apple 官方釋出的影片，又不想看文字轉播，多虧現在即時影音串流的服務很發達，您也許可以從 Livestream、Qik、Ustream 等網站找到即時的「非官方」影音轉播喔！例如知名的 podcast 「GeekBrief.TV」節目主持人 Cali Lewis 就在她的 Twitter「@CaliLewis」上說會在自己的網站透過 Ustream 進行 Live Show，只是我不太確定屆時觀看起來順不順暢，過去的經驗告訴我影像會有延遲的情況。而且老實說，同時看多個 blog 的文字轉播就很夠了。

Echofon for Mac 推出正式版！

Echofon for Mac 終於在4月14日推出正式版了！儘管比官方先前提過的時程（2009年年底）晚了四個多月，但是甫一推出即具備非常高的完成度，而且與 beta 版本相比，又新增了許多功能。關於 Echofon for Mac 這個 Twitter client 的介紹，大家可以參考我之前的文章「Echofon for Mac - 好用的 Twitter client」和「Echofon for Mac 更新」。（點此連結至 Echofon 下載）

正式版的 Echofon 比起 beta 版本，主要有以下的改變：

（以下只列出來我覺得比較重要的，詳細一點的可以參考這個網頁）

• 在免費版本中加入廣告（140proof & OneRiot）。
• 可以搜尋使用者。
• 不用開啟網路瀏覽器即可顯示 Geolocation 所標出的地圖。
• 用快捷鍵發送 tweet 把 iTunes 裡正在聽的歌曲告訴大家。
• 用快捷鍵發送 tweet 把正在瀏覽的 Safari 網頁告訴大家。
• 擷取螢幕快照後直接放到 tweet 裡面發送出去（跟以往一樣，圖片會存在 Twitpic）
• 提供快捷鍵以快速切換「Lists」。
• 加強了鍵盤導覽的功能。
• 移除了未讀訊息的底色。

去年推出 beta 版本時，他們團隊就有預告過 Echofon 會是個付費軟體，然而目前看來他們的策略是讓大家免費使用，只是使用者的 timeline 上會出現廣告，而付費版會移除所有的廣告，售價為20美金。

這幾天使用下來，已經可以在 timeline 上看見一些廣告了，Echofon 的廣告也是以 tweet 的形式刊登，而非 iPhone 上免費版的 Echofon for Twitter 是固定欄位的廣告，那麼要如何區分哪個tweet 才是廣告呢？除了每個 tweet 的最下方有顯示「ads by 140 proof」或「ads by OneRiot」之外，它的底色會是黃色的（而且跟 Google 搜尋結果上方的廣告欄位底色有點像）。如果看到喜歡的廣告，除了可以設成最愛，也可以透過 Twitter 官方的 Retweet 告訴您的親好友，但無法使用「Retweet with Comment（RT）」，相信這是為廣告主著想。

也會加上黃色的底色來跟其他 tweet 做區分。

既然使用的是免費版，那麼我對廣告也就沒什麼意見，唯一比較擔心的是將來廣告在 timeline 上出現的頻率，目前由於 Echofon 的廣告服務剛啟動，有時候一整天只會看到一、兩個廣告 tweet（想把廣告出現時的畫面擷取下來還不容易等到它出現呢XD），可是一旦頻率過高，像我在13吋的 MacBook 上使用 Echofon，一次大概只能看到七、八則 tweet，如果這裡面有兩個以上的廣告，我的錢包就得減肥了，我可能就會受不了。

然而 Echofon for Mac 正式版推出的時間點有些不巧，正好在 Twitter 宣布收購 Tweetie 之後沒多久。雖然 Twitter 目前只說過將來 Tweetie 會成為 Twitter for iPhone，也就是 Twitter 在 iPhone 上的官方 app，價格也將從原本的2.99美金降為免費，並沒有提到日後將如何處置 Tweetie for Mac，我想這個消息不但會影響 Echofon iPhone app 的銷售，由於使用者的觀望態度，還會導致 Echofon for Mac 推出正式版時原本應獲得的關注大大地降低（更何況原本 Tweetie 名氣本來就響亮的多）。

無論如何，Echofon for Mac 從 beta 版一路走到正式版，在功能、介面甚至 logo 都改變了很多。儘管在為數眾多的 Twitter client 裡（根據日前 Twitter 開發者大會「Chirp」活動中被揭露的數字為：十萬個以上）表現不差，雖不若 Tweetie for Mac 擁有高知名度和高市佔率，但我想 Echofon 是 Mac 上目前少數能兼顧外觀與功能的 Twitter client，所以在這裡推薦給各位。

Apple's iPhone OS 4.0 Event（Updated With Video Source）

再過大約兩小時，Apple 即將於美西時間4月8日上午10點，台灣時間4月9日星期五凌晨1點，於總部發表 iPhone OS 4.0。（身處其他時區的朋友，可以在這裡查看您的所在地所對照的時間）- 直接觀看更新部分

這是我第一次抱持完全不同的心情在注意 iPhone OS 4.0 相關消息——因為我也有 iPhone 了，所以非常興奮XD

按照慣例，Apple 會在發表會的隔天公布發表會的影片，除了可以到 Apple 網站，透過串流影音收看（甚至有高畫質版本喔 ← 可惜這次沒有），也可以到 iTunes Store 底下的 Podcasts>Video Podcasts>Tech News>Apple Keynotes 去免費下載發表會的影片（但恐怕就沒有高畫質版本了）。

更新：雖然 Apple 於發表會隔天即在 iTunes Store 放上發表會影片，但那個影片有問題，只能正常播放前19分鐘的內容。不過 Apple 已經做了修正，放上正常的發表會影片，大家可以再去下載一次。

Two iPad Reviews From Walter S. Mossberg and David Pogue

Before every Apple’s new product shipping, we usually got the reviews from Walter S. Mossberg and David Pogue. This time I suggest you read both of their reviews because their reviews are in different styles.

David Pogue’s article is always interesting. This time he writes his iPad review for two kinds of people: techies and regular people like you and me. In his review, he talks more about the concept. It doesn’t mean that he did the less tests. But in contrast with David Pogue’s review, Walter S. Mossberg talks more about his testing results in many sides of the iPad.

The same thing they both mention clearly is that the iPad’s battery life is longer than Apple’s claim. In David Pogue’s review, he said the number is 12 hours. And in Walter S. Mossberg’s review, he said that under his test, the iPad can play video for 11 hours and 28 minutes, and he also said that he kept the WiFi connection on and let it download E-mails in the background when iPad played video. Both of David Pogue and Walter S. Mossberg didn’t mention clearly that whether they adjust the brightness of the iPad’s screen.According their articles, I think they didn’t do that when they tested the iPad’s battery life.

The bad news is, it seems that the Pages(one of the Apple’s productivity software suit on the iPad called “iWork”) can’t transform the document well from Pages format to PDF. Walter S. Mossberg said it’s unreadable. And not to mention the result of transforming to Microsoft’s Word format.

However, Walter S. Mossberg thought that the iPad has the potential to change the portable computing and be a challenger to laptops and netbooks. Of course, only time will tell.

Apple Stock Hits All-time High, and...

Wow, look at that, Apple stock hits all-time high, just because of its iPad shipment announcement? It's interesting because most of people don't like the iPad at first, they said they were disappointed with it. Until today, even most of them didn't touch it, the market seems to like the iPad. Has the indicator changed? (About this change, you may want to read this: "The Apple iPad: First Impressions" by David Pogue, The New York Times columnist) However, today I don't want to talk about Apple stock.

Every time I hear media talking about Apple and its success, I feel confused and funny. They always focus on Steve Jobs. But the truth is that there is no second Steve Jobs. And Apple's success is not just because of him or the ID team. They are part of the keystone, but not all of it. I think that today Apple runs like a Fortune 500 company(actually, they are) because they got a good operation team and its leader: Tim Cook.

You may say "Who is Tim Cook? I know Steve Jobs and Johnathan Ive, they are artists. They create and design works of art. It's so cool!" However, we talk about business, even we don't like Apple's business side(the dark side?) that much. But come on, wake up, media and scholars, don't just focus on Steve Jobs. Please, do some research into Apple's operation team and how they manage this company. And stop talking about that innovation stuff. If you know that how Steve Jobs thinks about innovation, you won't to be dare to do so.

Echofon for Mac 更新

兩個月前跟大家介紹過 Echofon for Mac 這個好用的 Twitter client（請參考「Echofon for Mac - 好用的 Twitter client」一文），最近這個軟體密集地發佈更新，將版本號一下子由0.97推進到0.98.3（結果這篇文章寫完不到24小時就又更新了，現在是0.98.4，修正了上一版的幾個 bug），不但新增了許多功能，介面做點了更動，甚至連軟體的 icon 也換了。（Echofon 網站下載頁面）

功能方面，雖然在之前的介紹中，我提過一些 Echofon for Mac 的不足之處。然而最近幾次的更新，增加了幾項重要功能，改善了前一個版本部分的缺點：

1. 支援 Twitter 官方的 Lists 功能。
2. 在個人檔案的 Drawer 中支援 Twitter 官方的 Retweets 分頁。
3. 在個人檔案的 Drawer 中顯示 My Favorites。
4. 支援 Geolocation 的連結顯示。
5. 新增對 Magic Mouse 的支援。（0.98.3新增）

（關於 Magic Mouse 的支援部分，很抱歉我手邊沒有 Magic Mouse 所以無法測試。）

介面的部分，主視窗除了表示一個 tweet 中含有「圖片」、「對話」等圖示都變成彩色的之外，亦新增了 Geolocation 的連結圖示。過去的「Home」、「Mentions」、「Direct Messages」、「Search」和新增的「Lists」皆改以圖示代替文字，看起來跟系出同門的 iPhone App「Echofon for Twitter」更具一致性。

主視窗介面翻新的同時，Echofon for Mac 的特色之一，可任意開啟、收闔的 Drawer，對於帳號擁有者的資訊顯示介面也做了改變，最明顯的就是新增了「Lists」與 Twitter 官方的 Retweets 分頁欄位，是這一波更新中最重要的部分，讓 Echofon for Mac 的功能變得更加完整。

這次最重要的更新應該是增加對 Lists 功能的支援。

透過 Lists 功能，我們可以輕鬆地 follow 其他使用者的 lists，好處是其他人的 lists 裡出現的訊息，除非我們有個別 follow，否則不會直接出現在 time line 中。以下圖為例，若我對來自 Twitter team 的消息很感興趣，卻又不想 follow 他們團隊中的所有成員，使得一堆討論尾牙誰要跳 nobody 舞蹈的 tweets 充斥在我的 time line，那麼可以直接 follow 這個「@twitter/team」 list，而且在不同的 list 之間可以互相切換，相當方便。Lists 功能不但可以幫助我們將自己 follow 的人分組，一來在閱讀訊息時便不會顯得太過雜亂，二來其他使用者也能參考、follow 我們的 lists，豐富他們在 Twitter 上的使用經驗。

其他方面，Echofon for Mac 也新增了以快速鍵「command + N」將游標定位到文字框內撰寫新的 tweet，對於習慣以鍵盤操作的使用者應該是個福音。

然而，這次的更新也帶一個新的問題：每個 tweet 中顯示包含「對話」、「圖片」和「Geolocation」的圖示皆改為彩色，我認為過於鮮豔的色彩反而會干擾使用者閱讀訊息，特別是當圖示密集出現的時候，例如下圖。

既然 Echofon for Mac 已經在每個 tweet 的「Reply」、「Favorite」圖示採用隱藏式設計（而且圖示為灰色），實在沒有必要將其他圖示改為彩色的，應維持上一個版本的灰色設計比較好。（iPhone 上的 Echofon for Twitter 3也有相同問題，對於螢幕較小的 iPhone 來說影響更大。）

無論如何，經過這次更新之後，我認為 Echofon for Mac 完全有能力取代久未更新的 Tweetie 成為 Twitter 使用者的首選。（不過還是要提醒您，目前 Echofon for Mac 仍是 beta 版，並非正式版本。）

Apple "Come see our latest creation" Event!

再過大約一小時，Apple 即將於美西時間1月27日上午10點（台灣時間為1月28日凌晨2點），在舊金山的芳草地藝術中心（Yerba Buena Center for the Arts）舉行產品發表會。

這是 Apple 宣布不再參加 MacWorld 之後第一次於年初舉辦的重大產品發表會。而會中可能發表的產品與重大消息，各路謠言早已滿天飛，甚至連 McGraw-Hill CEO Terry McGraw 都進來摻一腳，至於 Apple 葫蘆裡賣的是什麼藥，等會兒就會揭曉囉！（個人希望是由 Steve Jobs 親自為我們揭開謎底。）
